Just back from a recent trip to Tulamben, Bali. On those dives, I found the zoom would consistently not work at ~60+ feet. Going up in the water column 'fixed' the problem.

Some sort of case compression/distortion would be the obvious culprit. Is there a suggested fix? I'd rather not replace the case, particularly since the camera is 'only' a G10 and I'd rather save my $ for an additional wet lens.

New springs on the buttons, and/or lube the bottoms so they pop back out better.
Some button is probably being slightly depressed by the pressure, and preventing the zoom action because the camera thinks you actually want something else to happen.

i generally agree with this guidance. depth issues are related to pressure and often are caused by a single "sticky" control that is pressing on the camera. The problem may not be related to the "broken" function.BUT: Canon zoom control is slightly different from most poke-a-button controls. I claim you have a problem only with your zoom control. The zoom control is a rotate this way, rotate that way control.Make sure you have the camera seated properly - check the rubber bumpers to make sure none have been moved a bit.You may have worn down the internal surface of the control? either on the camera or the housing. I had a camera that needed a dap of hot melt glue on a control to build it back up so the camera case control could engage properly.

Thanks to you and tursiops for the advice. I've gone through and lubed all the buttons with a toothpick and some silicone o-ring grease. The lever for zoom has a pocket where it meets the level on the camera, so I don't think slippage there is a problem. I wish there was an easy way to test before the next dive. My dive sites are about a 3 hour drive away.
