Finally, it hits the training market. SDI lanunched the online OW class. YOu can complete the academic materials by online and take a required check out diving at LDS or vacation sites.....

PADI took their "Discover Nitrox" & "Scuba Review" out of the online picture at the beginning of this year. Most Instructors and all of the LDS's I talk too are against online programs. For it to work, it needs to be a win, win situation for the customer, instructor and LDS.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get a Nitrox card from an online class. Of course, you should submit proof (fax/ email) that you have a valid OW card and the Nitrox card would be in the same name as the OW card.

Because on one makes any money off providing an Online Cert for something like Nitrox :D But I agree... Nitrox was a BIG Smack in the face at $90, and I learned basically NOTHING in the class as I'd done it all beforehand via the materials (which was another $40 if memory serves..).

I walked in, took the test, and then did the dives during AOW... effort on the part of the LDS... not much... Cost to me? Almost as much as AOW.

Who is the customer in this industry? The agency and LDS are one of business providers. If there is a demanding, I am sure it will work. It is just matter of time and number of potential divers.

Yes, PADI took the same step though. I think it is only on the speciality courses, not any main or core courses like SDI.

Sorry, slight hi-jack here. Ron, where did you get notrox certified for $90? The PADI class at dive shops around here is $200...very expensive IMO, especially considering having to pay for the check out diving in the lakes around here. What is the cheapest way to get nitrox certified that anyone out there knows of?

I paid $115 last year. That included the materials. It was from SSI
