Firefighter Rescues Man Trapped Underwater
(CBS4)
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL
A veteran Fort Lauderdale firefighter is being called a hero after he rescued a man from a submerged vehicle.
Greg Snyder was off-duty and driving home Sunday night, when he saw the car submerged in a creek under an I-95 bridge.
Snyder dove into the water, cut open the car's convertible top with a pocketknife and kept the driver's head above water until rescue crews arrived. He then helped the responders pull the man from the car.
The driver, Michael Quigley Junior, of Fort Pierce, lost control of his car on I-95 after suffering a diabetic episode. He was airlifted to a West Palm Beach hospital, where he was treated for a broken ankle.
