I am headed to Singapore in February (6-10th) for a work conference, and am looking to tack on a dive trip with the girlfriend.

I am thinking of adding a leg to Palau, but would love to get some opinions on if I should consider somewhere else in Indonesia or Malaysia. I read a lot about how it's rainy season in Indonesia that time of year, which lead me to consider other pacific islands.

Assuming I do visit Palau, is it worth visiting (for a week) without doing a live aboard? Due to the multiple islands, anyone have a suggested itinerary?

Thanks!

I did a trip just a few weeks ago to Palau. Land based with Sams-loved the diving. Not sure of the weather in Feb, but the boat rides weren't to bad, bumpy, etc.

Anytime you have a chance to dive Palau, take it. I worked as a dive guide there for a year and found it to be the best diving I have ever done,no exceptions! Itinerary...well that up to your level of diving and your pocket book. I would do Ulong channel outgoing tide everyday if I could. Top sites are Blue Holes,Blue Corner,New Drop Off,Virgin Blue Hole,Clarence Wall, and Coral Gardens. Also if you really want some mask ripping excitment go to Peleliu for a day and dive The Express,Yellow Wall, and The Cut.

Yes, it's definitely worth it. Over the years I've been there over 70 times and Feb is pretty good for 2 reasons.

(1) you are out of the heavy tourist season over the holidays.
(2) the weather cycle out here is changing to mostly sunny all days and the winds begin to quiet down.

absolutely if you have the time. great diving, another customer of Sam's and while some minor problems with the dive leader I won't judge the shop on him alone, most of the other staff were just fantastic.

Is this a trick question? is it worth it to dive Palau for a week? ASOLUTELY, OF COURSE, YES! Same goes for Indonesia. Feb is an excellent time to go to Palau. If you don't do it you might just have to shoot yourself. Missing out on an opportunity like this will make you question your sanity for the rest of your life. :D ok, I got carried away, but it is fairly terrific diving. Sam's has a great operation there as do a few other companies.

Agree, I was there last May with a group of students, well worth the trip. Going back this year. :D
