I was just curious if anyone knew the major differences in the JBL Woody and Elite spearguns. The elite cost a few dollars more and I was wondering what it buys you. Thanks!

The differance is the Elite series consists of a open muzzel, shark fin 5/16 thread and wing shaft and kevlar bands. Here is a picture.

The original series is closed muzzel with 5/16 shaft with a 6mm point.

Hope this helps.

I'm new to spearfishing and was looking at a 38 Special Elite. I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast and thought I would start out with a gun like that to learn my way around. I will probably shoot sheepshead, red snapper, and things like that. If I get comfortable with the sport I will then look at upgrading to a large three band gun. Does this sound like a good plan? Thanks!

Since you are going to be in the Alabama Gulf I would recommend that you consider getting the Sawed Off Magnum Aluminum 53". I recommend not getting the Elite but get it "Gulf Rigged". That is with a gulf muzzel and this way down the line if you want to use cable set up you will be able to. You can always use a longer gun in the shallows but using a shorter gun in the deep is more difficult ie: distance, range and power.

Well, the wife had already picked up the Elite (didn't have the heart to tell her to take it back). Just curious as to what the part numbers are for the available tips should I choose to remove the flopper. I will probably upgrade to a larger Gulf gun in the near future. Thanks!

The Elite will work just fine. It has a 5/16 threaded tip so wha you can do is use part (#815) which is a 5/16 to 6mm adaptor and then just pick your tip as long as it is a 6mm tip you can use it.
