Whats up Guys & girls?
I was in the market for a new computer so I found a great deal brand new Wisdom 2 computer for $199. So I went ahead and bought it. When it arrived it wasnt in a box and it was the original Wisdom 1. So I called the Dive Shop where I bought it and they gave me a little attitude and said what do you want its almost $600 off. I told him I wanted what they advertised The new and improved Wisdom 2. They said to send it back no problem and they did go back to there website and correct the wording on the sale and included Close-Out not in a box.
My question to you is there that much difference between the two?? Should I go ahead and keep it?? What do I do??

Thanks for the help, STR8SHOOTR

STR8SHOOTR,

I agree with you that the Dive Shop should not have advertised it as a NEW Wisdom 2. I own the Wisdom 1 and it is a great computer. For $199, it's a steal, just make sure you put in a new battery if it's been sitting in a dive shop for a long time.

FYI,

The Wisdom 1 computers were slightly cantankarous. They've been known to, for the lack of technical terms on my part, go nuts. Something is not right with the circuitry or something like that. Alarms would start going off, the computer won't stop diving, or won't start diving, etc. My buddy bought a Wisdom 1 and he had to send it back twice. Knock on wood, it's been working the last few dives. When I started helping him doing research, that's when I found reports of Wisdom 1 computers going into funk mode.

I have a Wisdom 2 for three years now and the only things I needed to do it were changing batteries once a year and replacing the hose (I damaged my hose somehow during the move).

So, it's up to you to see if that $199 is worth the possible hassle of guarantee issue.

Thanks for the replies. I will replace the battery, wow, it didnt even cross my mind. But I think $199. is worth the gamble, hopefully it wont give me any problems.

Thanks again, Get wet!

I never had any problems with my Wisdom 1. Alarms only go off if you set them to "On" with my Wisdom 1. Maybe I got lucky:D

Personally, I'd send it back and, if paid by credit card, I'd contact my credit card company to stop payment pending a full refund.

What that dive shop did was a classic bait and switch. Whether the Wisdom 1 is a good deal at that price--and what's up with no box?--is beside the point. They ripped you off.

Just my .02 cents.

It's stories like this that really make me appreciate my LDS.

I bought a W 1 when they first came out and had a few problems with it...nothing life threatening. When I sent it back to get the battery changed, the log feature blanked...all gone. And I had to reset everything. Used it hard for about three years, kept up with battery changes and O rings (quick detach model) but one time ended up with water in the battery compartment. Sent it back and used a W 2 while it was gone. Got it back with a brand new computer unit. The only difference that I can see is in the color bands on the face - warnings, alarms, green, yellow, red. Function and operation has not changed. I kept the W 2 and sold the "new" W 1 with 0 dives on it to a diver in my LDS. My only suggestion is to let your LDS tech do the battery changes and O ring service. It's worth it.

YA know, When buying it I thought to myself This sounds to good to be true. But I've made alot of orders online and never got beat. So I guess I'll put it with the rest of my life long lessons and next time buy from my local dive shop where I was cert.
