Just finished watching the opening ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Very mixed feelings about the whole program.

There were some real touching moments with the WTC flag, the Olympic flag carriers, the 5 Indian nations coming together for the first time, and I am sure a few others that I failed to mention.

Some of the pageantry was good, IMO, but really dragged on.

One area that was sad, maybe even close to pitiful, was listening to Jim McKay. Once a fine sports commentator he seemed disoriented and rambling on about things that happened a long time ago that didn't fit in the program.

Did you watch it? What did you think?

Let the games begin!!

Hi Socal!

What are you doing back in Cali? Did I miss something?

I tried to watch the opening ceremonies but as I had been up at 4am that Friday, I was zoning in and out of consciousness, so my memory is foggy. I did remember finding the commentary a little annoying and boring.

But I did like part with the five Native American tribes - I thought it was a nice tribute to the area. I always like the parade of nations. I heard that the 1980 hockey team carried in the torch but was truly asleep at that point and am disappointed that I missed the lighting.

SoCal I agree, there were some very moving moments and I enjoyed the ice story, but thought it a bit lengthy. I especially thought the Olympic flag bearer choices to be interesting representations.

Hey Sandy,

I sort of had to come back to Socal to clear up some things that I felt needed attention in person unfortunately. I hope to go back to the east coast sometime in mid to late summer.

The 80s hockey team actually lit the olympic flame after gold medalists from prior years carried the torch around the stadium what seemed to be forever.

we were talking about it out on the golf course today and our general consensus thought the most classic part was a tie between the Indian nations get together and President Bush getting in among the US contingent and handed a cellphone to talk to someone on the other end.

ozzie ozzie ozzie oi oi oi sorry had to do that :)

hello socialdiver

Can you tell me if you are recieving a show on any of your tv stations called the ICE DREAM

It's a show by two blokes called ROY and HG. They did a similar show for the Sydney Olympics. I was just wondering if you are getting it at all. And have you heard of Fatso the big bumed wombat??
