Hello,

If i want to run twin steel 100's would a 50 lbs lift be enough or should i go 60 or 100. Please help..Thanks

50 lbs should be more than enough. I have doubled 112's and use Dive Rite's Classic wing, which has 55 lbs. of lift. This assumes that you are using AL stages. If using steel stages, then you'll need to account for their negative buoyancy.

diving dry or wet, fresh or salt?

100 is overkill, 60 generally is good. I recommend diving dry with steel doubles of that size as redundant bouyancy.

Also recommend some training. (intro to tech)

Assuming your rig is neutral with no air in the wing at about 500 psi, you should only need enough bouyancy capacity to offset the weight of the gas you're carrying at the start of the dive, plus a little extra to float you comfortably.

Check out the bouyancy characteristics of your tanks, but as an example, one HP100 I looked at is 10lbs negative when full, and 2.5lbs negative empty. Doubled, and not counting the slight negative bouyancy of the bands and manifold, they'd be 20lbs negative when full, and 5lbs negative when empty. Since your rig should be neutral when near empty, you have about 15lbs of negative bouyancy to overcome to be neutral when they're full. That plus 15lbs of surface flotation still only requires a 30lb wing. Given that, I think 60 or 100lbs of lift would be excessive, unless your rig isn't as neutrally balanced as it should be. I think 50 should be more than enough, even if you use steel stages.

My own doubles have about a 12lb bouyancy increase from full to empty, and I use a 40# wing without any trouble.

I have the Classic Wing as well - it actually offers 59lbs of lift.

Northern Michigan University (NMU) is up at Marquette in the Upper Penninsula, which puts him in Lake Superior - some of the coldest fresh water on earth. I suspect he's already diving dry.

55 lbs of lift should be fine for nearly any conceivable gear configuration not involving high-level bozonity. Halcyon, Dive Rite, Oxycheq, OMS, Tobin, and the new up-and-comer out of Europe all make decent wings in that range.

Doc

Your right i do dive dry...and did go to Northern Michigan University...nice work figuring that one out. Also do OMS make a 55 lbs wing i know of a 60lbs from there website but not a 55...I found this guy selling one on ebay and says its a 55 lbs. Also i do plan on having training beofre i use the boubles just want some equipment first then the class this fall. Thanks guys please reply with any info

I use a deepoutdoors SS harness and their 55# lift wing - I've used it diving dry with steel 95's and it's plenty of lift for me.

I think there's some considerations if your diving somewhere excessively cold or in antarctica or something but that setup has worked nicely for me.

I use a 45 lbs for large steel doubles. Most of my fellow divers here use 40 lbs wings for the same set up. I don't know what 60's and 100's means. Could anyone give me the volume and empty weight of these tanks, and the WP? then I can give you some input on the issue. My doubles er 12 liter and 232 bar. Empty tank weight is 14 kilos each. the rest is math.
