I use the Canon A570 in the Canon WP-DC12 housing, which is not designed to have wide angle lenses (such as the Ikelite W-20) attached to it.

Have any of you made your own attachment to put such a lens on any housing that isn't designed to hold it, either a permanent attachment or something more elaborate that allows removal?

What did you do, and how does it work for you?

You simply need the Inon AD adapter and then you can install either the Inon 105AD or the 165AD. The threaded lenses probably cannot be made to work because the stack depth of the adapter and the distance from the face of the lens port beauty ring to the glass element is to deep and would place the rear element of the wet lens too far from the camera lens to work without severe vignetting.

Here you can see the Inon AD adapter installed along with the my homemade tray adapter for my DC-12:

In the lower margin you can also see my homemade AD to 67mm threaded adapter which allows me to install Inon AD lenses on my Ikelite threaded port camera housing, not shown. This side view also shows the Inon AD adapter on the DC-12:

Thank you!

That's the kind of thing I was looking for on Ikelite's web site. I don't know if this will work with my Ikelite tray, but there's bound to be a way around that.

Which Inon lens(es) do you like most?

The tray pictured in my other post is an Ikelite tray I bought for my Ikelite housing. I did not want to carry two trays so I made an adapter shown above and here for mounting the DC-12 to the Ikelite tray:

If you like your 570 and the DC-12 housing is still in good shape then the Inon 165AD lens is the way to go for wide angle, however, that lens like all AD lenses is difficult to adapt to the threaded port type housings.

I know this thread is a couple months old, but thought I would throw this out there for all the A570 users.

I use a Canon housing, it's not what I want, but it's what i have. So, what to do about macro or WA? I like the a570 too much to get rid of it, so I came up with the following. Is my solution true WA, probably not, but it's slightly better than stock

This is what I did.

Bought Epoque WA lens for $100 from another diver.
Bought Epoque multi-lens adapter for lens from some on-line store.

The multi-lens adapter will not work on the Canon DC-12 without some modification. Using a Dremel, I cut a gutter in the adapter facing the camera lens so that the lens adapter would sit very close/straight and not wallow around. This took some time and I used a template created from measurements taken from the camera itself.

I shortened the tray screw for the camera housing so that it would fit into the recessed slot for my sea&sea tray. Added a longer scew for the multi-lens adapter and used a semi-soft gasket between the two for a snug/compression fit.

Again, probably not the best solution in the world. In a couple of more years, I'll upgrade to a better rig. For now, it's what I have.

cheers

I bought a WP DC9 for my SD800 IS a couple of years ago and Fred Dion from UnderWater Photo-tech fashioned an adapter for a sea and sea Wide angle add on lense. It is a very simple appliction and seems to work fine. I have to zoom thru the lense but not much and the quality has been fine. Its not DSLR but not bad at all. Maybe give them a call.

Nemrod,

If anything, I should be thanking you since I got some of my ideas from your very well written posts for the last couple of years.

Thanks!

Well, maybe:crafty: but nonetheless, your rig is very clever and an inspiration for DIY projects. :D. Thanks.

Merry Christmas.
