I am switching to a necklace for my backup reg. I haven't gotten around to buying the ideal length hoses yet, so in the short term I was going to switch the existing hoses, so the longer octo hose is on my primary.

So I unscrew the hoses from the regs, and I can't swap them... the octo and primary use different fittings. WTH?

(FWIW these are Dive Rite regs which shipped with swivel fittings on the hoses. The primary is the RG2010, and the backup is the RG1215.)

I must have done something dumb. Or is this one of those things that everyone knows about and no one needs to talk about, like how a "two by four" isn't 2" x 4" ? :)

Poseiden regs use a different inlet fitting connection, but the rest of the industry uses the same generic hose to inlet fitting connection.

I am not familiar wth your second stages, but it is possible you have removed the actual inlet fitting from the second stage case rather than removed the hose from the inlet fitting.

That must be it. I'll take a closer look. Thanks!

I don't know about the DiveRites specifically but some Apeks first stages (DST) use a 1/2 inch hose for the primary second stage reg and the industry standard 3/8 hose for octos and inflators.

But it is all the same connection at the second stage end of the hose.

I must admit that I am not familiar with your regs either, but please be sure that if you have in fact detached the fitting from the second stage housing that you have not damaged the 2nd stage housing or altered the orifice or any of the components that adjust the cracking pressure. I had a reg (old Dacor) that if you loosened the orifice jam nut, it was all too easy to move the orifice and totally screw up the cracking pressure. I have also seen some regs come into a shop that I worked that had a cracked 2nd stage housing because no one used a back up wrench when removing the second stage hose.

I took another look last night and sure enough, I had removed the inlet fitting. (Can you tell I am new at this?) Everything seems fine though, thanks for the help!
