I'm sure this thread has been done b4 but I haven't seen it. I was just interested in what keeps people returning to scuba divimg? In my case, I think that it's the peace & relaxation I get when i am down there....The weightlessness, nobody is talking, requirement to focus on what you are doing....those are the main things that have always drawn me back.

Because the feeling of weightlessness, and of drifting out over a dropoff where you don't drop, but "fly", is still the bomb.

Because meeting new divers on a boat, and going through all the pre-dive checks and rituals, is reassuring and enjoyable.

Because underwater is both a museum (wrecks) and an aquarium in which some of the colors are so brilliant, you'd swear they're fake, but they're not, and this is a museum and aquarium few people get to see.

Because learning a routine, executing a dive competently, and the consequent feeling of, "I can do this", is satisfying.

Those are my first thoughts. Anyone else?

My interest in diving was the pretty ness of the ocean. I soon found out that pictures and video do not do it anywhere near justice. I then started diving more and more, and loved just the feeling of being underwater, weightless ness, quietness, no cell phones going off!!! It became a time for me and only me. I then began working in a dive shop and got very interested on how simple the equipment really is and how much you rely on it. Then I started realizing how many people have not seen and felt the experiences you get diving. I love the diving community, you meet other divers and they are basically your friends, just as pilots. And most of all the feeling afterwards of being so relaxed and not a care in the world

A couple of reason.. first.. meeting people with the a common love. second..peace,tranquility.. think it brings us back to prebirth which causes us to relaxe mentally more than sitting around the house.. or even on the beach. But finally...hey 75% of the earth is covered in water.. and quite frankly I want to see it ALL!!!

Because I can. :D

I have always loved being in the water very much... As I got older I realized that it probably has a lot to do with being near weightless and the quietness of the enviroment...when I enter the water, a peace and calmness comes over me, I think of nothing else...the water does it for me.

I can't imagine not diving. It is a whole other world that many people never experience. And even though I do a lot of my diving int he same basic area, no two dives are the same.

I have met so many wonderful people in the dive community and shared experiences.

Oh, and there is nothing like fresh Lobster that I cought myself.

The only place where such inactivity is both recommended and admired!

As I've said before, I keep hoping if I do it enough, I'll get good at it.
