29Oct-08Nov 2013 MV Argo - Liveaboard Dive Trip to Cocos Island, Costa Rica - Undersea
On a sunny Tuesday Argo departed to Cocos Island, on board there was a Hungarian group and a Swiss french couple During the firsts dives at Manuelita both groups already had very good tiger shark encounters! The visibility at Dirty Rock and Punta Maria wasn't at its best but that wasn't an obstacle to see groups of hammerheads and few Galapagos at the cleaning station.
One of the most exciting encounters at Punta Maria was a 15ft whale shark that stayed with the yellow team for few minutes!! At night the Coral Garden and Chatham Bay were packed with white tip sharks looking for their pray, a few of the got lucky and had a good dinner! Even a Galapagos showed up out of the darkness, to the surprising all the divers O_O !!
Alcyone was a little bit quiet during the week, the viz was poor and the hammerheads were far from the cleaning stations, but just like a movie with a happy ending, the final dive at Alcyone was epic! Dolphins and Black tip sharks were hunting right in front the yellow team, while a couple of green turtles and walls of hammerheads were swimming above their heads!!!
That was definitely a dream dive In other dive sites like Dos Amigos we had sporadic sightings of small schools of hammerheads. Other creatures that appeared quite regularly during this trip have been eagle rays. They were forming small schools. We also saw both green and hawksbill turtles.
Third dives throughout the week were especially good for macro. At Lobster Rock we saw the elusive rosy lipped batfish and at Ulloa we spotted a big seahorse among other animals like marbled rays and groups of white tip sharks!!
