When was this board created?

What changes have you seen?

I've been here since July 02, when I found this dive discussion nugget. I believe there were less than 9,000 members. It's growing very fast. The discussions have been generally on the same topics, although one always see's new ideas and perpectives. New topics keep coming up, too.

Back then, in the good old days, old days are always good even when they're better now, I used to hear contributors reminisce about the real good ole days. How everyone knew each other. How the flames weren't as hot back then. Did you know that a 1000 degree vitriolic flame was actually cooler back in the good ole days. I think it has something to do with the nature of the gas vitriolic. I've heard that its properties actually vary depending on who the good donor is and the time of donation. In the heat of the moment its always hotter. Remember that.

A positive change I have noticed, is that all ideas are challenged more now than back then, and this is more readily accepted. A greater attempt is made to demand evidence, sound arguments, and consideration of views from different perspectives, than before. Without corrupting the discussion. As opposed to accepting hearsay and existing norms. There is a greater overall tendency to challenge the merit of a stated position, by demanding an irrefutable argument or evidence to support it. There were times when most eveyone sang the same song and few dare to tell them they where out of tune. In no small part due to a fear of the gas vitriolic.

There are many more specific categories of discussion. A good thing that facilitates ease of use and subject content for a diverse membership. Yet, there's nothing like the good ole Basic Scuba Discussion to get the juices flowing. Did I mention the gas vitriolic also has its juicy state?

I may be a little off base but this board was created by king neptune and Ladydiver. His join date is 07-13-2000 and hers is 07-14-2000. The board is now run and owned by Netdoc. There are a grip load of old timers still hanging around although some have come and gone.

There's a few long-timers around, quite a few don't post very often, just watch, and offer advice when asked.

Mr Mares:

Cool thread. Thanks for posting. If i remember right king neptune had a interesting background as a former green beret special forces diver. It would be nice to get a update to see how both of them are doing now a days. Hopefully everything is good with them. :beerchug:

....and SB is not exempt. There are many whom have come and gone for various reasons. The questions and arguements are for the most part rfecycled. However good to have the ability to discuss and make friends across the province, country, continent and of course the world.

The year my Mom passed away I recieved a bouquet of flowers from some of my my new SB friends. Touched me more than any others.

NetDoc....keep up the good work.

I think that for the most part people come back and "lurk" from time to time even if they don't post much. I personally have a hard time with the board being split up into so many different sections. I read a little from this and a little from that. I used to come here and read the "new posts" which popped up in the right upper corner. Pretty soon that got to be pages of new text, more than I wanted to see at one time. Now I wouldn't even dream of seeing what would come up.

It sure is nice to still have the board here if I want it for some info, or for just catching up on what is going on. I rarely post anymore though.

Later, Hawk.

When I first found the boards.......I was able to go back and read all of the posts since the boards started. I had time to read all of the new posts each day.
I think that would be impossible today ;)
Now I just read the new posts that catch my interest. :crafty:

Yes, some really knowledgable and helpful divers have left the boards, but others show up to take their place. There has always been a good balance here.

To Net Doc and the Mods, Thanks and Keep up the great work!! :thumb:

I have learned a lot and met some great friends over the last few years here on Scubaboard. One of the people who I remember from the beginning when I signed up was NetDoc. Even though I don't know him personally, he has always been very nice and respectful to me, and in my opinion has done a fantastic job taking over Scubaboard. Keep up the good work Pete. :)
