So, are there shops that actually like or look for brand new CDs? or do they have to scratch around and hope to find work that no others want??

From what (little) I understand, people don't normally 'get the nod' for CD training unless they've got an IDC center affiliation already and their 'promotion' fills some sort of need.

Good question. A CD is created because they have good cert and conversion numbers. There's room for about 60 MI's per year and top producers will be given preference. A CD would add value to any store, so any store/operation that doesn't have one would be looking to hire. The CD could also float from locale to locale and work as a contractor.

I concur with Devondiver and Jill. In my experience (limited to only 15 years, course directors are "connected " already through their years of experience and climb up the credential ladder. Our LDS is losing its course director to health issues, but we have another on the verge of getting his credential. He will have no problem being as busy as he cares to be.

and so we are steering certifications to a guy who has all the other credentials in place so he can be the replacement.

I would expect that a portion of your CD training will involve how to market your skills. Any agency will be happy to help you keep busy making them money.
