The tumbling action of dryers can break down insulation, and you need the loft of the insulation to maintain its bulk and thus warmth.

Now I have a German made Miele clothes washer and matching dryer that has programmed cycles so gentle that they can handle garments made to be hung dry, but unless you have a $2000 European washer and a matching $1800 dryer, don't chance it.

Hand washing and hanging up to dry REMARKABLY prolongs the life and appearance of drysuit undergarments. Lint in a washer and dryer is the garments breaking down.

Never, ever follow manufacturers suggestions for maintenance. It's a conspiracy to make you ruin your gear and have to buy more.
