I just wanted to know if you find difficult to set the WB while underwater with the S70...

I find extemely difficult to press the "Set" button while holding a dive slate in front of the camera...

Wish I could easily reach this button with my thumb but i can't and even if my move my hand in a different position this button, in my opinion, is difficult to press...

Bottom line, no WB underwater unless I want to take just a couple of wide angle shots and WB post processed using ZoomBrowser...

Your comments will be appreciated...

Ciao Erik Il Rosso

i have attached a piece of curved white plastic that connects to the same loop for the flash diffuser. when i set my white balance i just dangle the thing in front of the lens and press set with my right hand. was difficult in the beginning but have gotten used to it

shoot raw (S70 can do it) and set WB/contrast/sharpnes... later, it is a much better/easier way of doing it...

I use pixmantec rawshooter for postprocessing (it's free, you just have to register)

I'm very interested, can you post a pic of it ???

Maybe with an additional hand (the one that holds the white slate) it will be easier to press the "Set" button...

Here is where I start to get confused...

1) Better to shoot raw, with white balance set underwater and no post porcessing ???

Or...

2) Shoot in raw, white balance set to "Auto" and then post process the pic at home clicking on a white spot in the pic in order to obtain the right colours ???

I really don't know what is better to do...

Is there a definitive answer to may question/doubt ???

do you know those slates that you attach to your wrist with 3 or 4 pieces of bent plastic? i removed one of the pieces and improvised for my white balance

shoot raw and no WB setting under water (you can do equaly good with software later on), so this would be option 2.
but you can do more than just set WB. you can fix your underexposed pictures if shoot in raw, you can choose how to do the sharpening (and how much) and then save it in right format (which doesn't have to be jpeg)

I just picked up the canon sd550 which also shoots in raw. I've yet to test this baby out underwater, so i'll post something when i get to test it out.

I agree with HV. Although I use a DSLR it's the same for you if you shoot raw, making changes on the computer.
