I have the opportunity to either purchase a brand new Genesis Cobra 2 or a slightly used Oceanic Probe, both are weight integrated and about the same price. Any recommendations?

What are your main diving needs and interests? Many BC's are good all around units while others lend themselves better to different situations and environments. I just looked at the Genesis website and it seems the Cobra 2 is not in this years model line. Is it a leftover from last year or earlier? I'm not that familiar with the Genesis line but I started out with a Probe and used it for over 3 years til I went with a BPW and Zeagle Express Tech.

The Probe is a workhorse of a BC. Very well made and with a company that stands behind their products. Is this the older Probe or the Probe LX? The LX has zippered rear accessory pockets behind the weight releases and the older one used Velcro ones. The zippered are better IMO. The velcro ones were hard to get into and I rarely used them for that matter. The BC is a bit bulky for travel and whenever I did fly it got shipped to the place I was going UPS and then back home the same way.

It has plenty of lift and I used mine in everything from a tshirt to my drysuit. In cold and warm water. As well as fresh and salt. One other thing is I don't know what they use to dye the BC but mine had well over 125 hours in chlorinated pools with just a good rinse after and I don't think it faded at all. I sold it about two years ago when it became clear that it no longer fit my needs and diving style and I needed a little extra cash. Otherwise it would still be on my gear rack.
