i am new to the sport. can i even get a bc for under 250. i wont use it very often so i dont need top of the line. which do u recomend

Where do you live/where will you dive?
If you're not going to be using it much you can just rent.
However, these guys are nice and cheap:
Zeagle Scout
Sherwood Silhouette
Sherwood Freedom
Of these, I think most people would agree that the Freedom is the way to go if you do get a BC.

As long as you are not after "state of the art" with all the bells & whistles, cut your budget in half and take a look on ebay. Lots of good used BCs for $100.00 and less.

Sure as heck can't beat the price.
These are the BC my club has. I did my OW cert and 20 dives with one, and I still use one when I'm in the pool. Perfectly acceptable, and super cheap.
I love the corrugated hose on this BC. The outside edge is made to hold your inflator hose all along its length. Neat.

Many dive shops will stock up on discontinued BC's. With Scubapro this is one way to be able to sell a heavily discounted BC within their otherwise fairly restricted price structure. This allows Scubapro dealers to offer a very competetively priced alternative to customers buying cheaper brands of BC's elsewhere.
I managed to buy both my spouse and son discontinued but new Scubapro Accent BC's for under $250 each a couple years ago and I know of one dive shop that still has a few in stock for $249.00. Many local dive shops will also sell rentals and in some cases if there has been a recent dealership change, the "old" rentals from the previous brand can be virtually new. It may pay to check with some local dive shops and see what is available.
