hey, for any of you who have been here, and read anything i have posted (besides about jessica albas luscious ***) you know i want to become a scuba instructor..

what i am wondering is this,
would it be better begin to get certified in Canada, where i live now, or wait till i move to Costa Rica in september to start..

a few people here have said its harder to dive in the water here, and that it would look good if i had both..

please let me know what you all think..

xoxo

Never mind the place. Instead try get contact to Course Directors (or any Instructor if precerts needed) you are choosing from, and find out which one suits you best. There's also differences how well they prepare their candidates to IE, and paying extra 400 for CD's mistake is undesirable. Talking about the place what matters is having both IDC and IE preferably in same location to avoid unexpected surprises during IE.
I'm waiting my Instructor card to come next week:D

Good luck

Do it in Canada!
I have seen many Canadian instructors in the Caribbean. You certainly carry more weight when you show up as an Insrtuctor. Do it now!!

I think you will find that the cost of IDC is much higher in Canada. If that makes a difference to you, consider Central America. You don't have to limit yourself to Costa Rica. It is no problem to go from there to Honduras or Belize. Also, IDC's in Central America will almost always be consecutive days, followed by an IE (meaning you are finished 2 weeks after you begin). But in Canada, most (but not all) IDC's will be spread out over several weeks or months, and the IE might be weeks later. For some, this is better, others prefer to do it all at once.As for water temp, the IDC involves only a few actual dives. So, while a long history of diving in rough conditions might prove something, I don't think that anyone will think you are a super-stud just because you took one short course in Canada.

I'd get certified in Canada. Nothing is better training than cold water. You will be very well prepared for just about anything you would encounter in warm water. Besides, there is some great diving in cold water locations that you wouldn't want to miss. A variety of experience makes you a better diver.

I think you should train here in Ventura. :)
