i have been to many islands.i prefer no cruise ships does anybody know where i can go other than ac or utila that is not a whole lot further away from oregon with no ships thanks

you may want to look at Belize ....even though cruise ships do dock in Belize City... most if not all resorts are on the out islands like Caye Caulker and Ambergirs Caye and cruise ships do not go there....or book a liveaboard....

the Caribbean for the most part has been taken over by cruise ships...it is going to be hard to find a place that is cruise ship free....;)

thanks buddy but i mentioned ac (ambergris caye)in my original post.thats the best place ive been.im just trying to find a place better that also has no cruise pier.and im leary about utila since the airports have been shut down.might just have to go back to ac

rduncan - can you fill out your profile so we can see where you have been, how much diving experience you have, what you would like to see (besides no cruise ships) and then we can help you better. There are lots of places to discuss here if you can give us more info. :D

I am actually a buddette ;) Utila as well as Roatan are safe the airports that were closed were on the mainland...if you fly direct to Roatan and then on to Utila you would be fine....Roatan has a couple of ships a week but if you stay in West end or one of the resorts you wouldn't even notice....sorry didn't put ac as Ambrigris Caye ;)...

Utila is about the only place I can think of also. I dove there with someone from a smaller city in OR but I believe he had at least an all day flight to get there. We're just able to do it through Houston/Roatan via the ferries but we're just enough closer than you are. I don't think people from L.A. can get there w/o overnighting in TX first.

Maybe the west side of Curacao? At least a couple dozen good dive sites and several dive resorts. But cruisers are a few miles away downtown - it's a pretty major cruise stop. In a week of diving out west we never noticed any cruisers, otoh, once we went east a day boat dropped about 100 snorkelers on our heads at the Tugboat dive site (it's 20' so snorkel accessible) Since it's mostly shore diving, the only place you might see cruise divers are on some boat trips, I know that Ocean Encounters runs a boat up the coast starting in town weekly. Not sure about the mix though.

Even a small island like St. John seems to have lost it's immunity:
St. John does not have a cruise ship dock however a few ships do stop
Of course maybe that's expected since St. Thomas is such a large cruise destination.

What about Little Cayman? Or Cayman Brac if Brac Reef Resort has re-opened now?

It depends upon the type of diving you are seeking and your experience level. Florida (caves), Andros (Blue Holes), Cayman (drop-offs), Cozumel (drift), Bonaire (shore access), Outer Banks of N.C. or the Great Lakes (wreck diving), the Great White North (ice and icebergs), the list goes on. There are many choices and each provides a variety of underwater environments and marine life.

Cruise ships now visit Bonaire - they moor at Town Pier. I can't imagine driving through town at that time.

oooh LC very good suggestion....can't believe I forgot about that wonderful little island...with some of the best diving in the Caribbean IMO:blinking:

yes by all means go there.....of course you will have to fly to GC and catch a island hopper to get there but a big plus NO cruise ships...
