I'm a Fish!
Hi guys. New to the board.
I'm wondering where to go in the early weeks of July in the Caribbean area in regards to especially unique or prolific life. In other words-- where's the place to go around here this time of year?

Thanks for any informed information! Best diving to all!

Where have you dived before and what do you mean by "unique or prolific life"? What do you like to do when you are not diving? Will you be traveling alone, or with other divers, or with family? What is your approximate budget with/without airfare?

Since you are coming from Houston you should have good access to much of the Caribbean and many choices. July is a good time throughout most of the Caribbean so you will need to narrow down your options before anyone can give a reasonable suggestion.

Without knowing where you've been it's hard to answer. Some random thoughts:

1.) Have you done the M/V Fling trip out of Freeport, Texas? Gulf, not Caribbean, and deep, but close to home & would save you airfare.

2.) Have you done the Florida Keys? Caribbean type diving & fishy, at least in the upper Keys; I dove Key Largo - my trip report.

3.) Are you big on sharks? Wrong time of year for the lemon shark migration out of Jupiter, Florida, but you could do a shark feeding dive with Emerald Dive Charters from that area, or try the Bahamas or Turks & Caicos. If sharks are a big draw by chance, how about a North Carolina trip? Yes, it's not Caribbean and it's wrecks, not reefs (aside from ledges out of the southern part, IIRC), but sand tiger sharks could be just the ticket. Long boat rides out, & it is the Atlantic. But Lord willing and providing, I hope to give it a shot later this summer.

4.) Have you been to Bonaire or Curacao? They have a rep. for being fairly fishy, albeit not a lot of big stuff, and shore diving is very popular.

5.) Have you been to Cozumel? Granted it's drift diving & often rather deep, but warm, great viz., some big stuff, rep. for varied underwater topography...

Here's a thread on Distinctive Caribbean & Florida Dive Destinations, in case you're after something special.

Richard.
