Been offline for awhile and just read these earlier posts. I second Colliam7 recommendations. Weather offshore and the long drive can be vexing at times, but when you find calm blue waters of the gulfstream in June, the visibility is great and the dives challenging.

Looks like the coast is covered pretty well. For quarries you may also consider Lake Rawlings in Virginia. It's only an hour and half up I 85 from Raleigh, just over the line. The viz at Fantasy Lake begins to turn to crap by June because there are no strainers in it. Rawlings has freshwater clams (or whatever) that keep the water clear. You may camp or stay in a local hotel.
