my husband and i have been to playa del carmen mx twice. we usually stay on the 5th and take the ferry over to cozumel to dive. i can not get enough of that blue water over there. anyway. we are planning our next trip and i would love to go back, but i would also like to expierence a new place similiar to cozumel, but the playa del carmen atmosphere. i'm not into the college type atmosphere. just "no worries" and that passion for the deep blue and coral!!!! oh and pretty resonable in price.

Ambergis Cay is the most casual place I have vacationed. The diving wasn't as good as Cozumel but it was still good. The topside activities were a bit more laid back then casual. And it was relatively cheap.

the Divi on Brac.......... dive and hit the beach.... rent a jeep and tour the island just a nice relaxing no worries week and they have a nice deal running all inclusive, you can see thie ads in sport diver and scuba mag

How about Bonaire? The diving is great, the sunsets are gorgous, the food is good, and you can drink the water! Air Jamaica usually runs some pretty good specials for air fare as well ....

We stayed at Deep Blue View (a B&B) and they have a very reasonable package deal that includes boat dives, shore diving & auto ... it was like having our own home and private pool on the island ....

Actually Belize is better then Cozumel. I can not get into mass congestion in Cozumel on all the dive sights, or driving around for hours to find a less crowded spot. In Belize, while most dive sites are five minutes from San Pedro and have plenty of turtles, nurse sharks, eagle rays, lobsters etc to satisfy most divers, the day trips out to the Blue Hole or Turneffe Elbow are what makes the diving in Belize more interesting.

There, you will find other types of sharks besides nurse sharks to go with the plentiful marine life. San Pedro itself (do NOT stay on Caye Caulker - the sand flies control all forms of life on that Caye) is unfortunately becoming more urban, but it certainly came from an extremely rustic starting point, so anyone new to it would not see how dramatically it has changed in the last ten years.

We have gone at least a dozen times to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, after going to other places as well, and my wife and I always end up comparing them to Belize. Most others we meet there tend to agree with us.

I have to agree with Kat. The best dive vacation we have taken was to Bonaire. We have been to Belize (it was beautiful), Cozumel (it was crowded), Grand Cayman ( pretty but expensive) and Bonaire.

We plan to return to Bonaire for Christmas and New Years. We like Bonaire because it is a smaller island, the freedom that shore diving provides, and at $99/week for air it is a great deal.

any idea which hotel in bonaire??? some type of package deal, 5-6 day boat dives? nice walk to resteraunt. room nothing fancy just something to lay my head upon at night??? i've checked out tripadvisor.com? anything you guys ever been too???? thanks for the responses!!!!!!

I do not recommend The Plaza or Toucan Diving both have a "Do not care" attitude!

If you get any PMs, I am also looking for something along those lines, though earlier in December. All inclusive is my preference as well, though the B&B mentionned earlier by Diver Kat sounds nice. Would be flying out of Toronto or Detroit.

Thanks
