My wife and I will be going to Cozumel in a few months and would like to know where the best beach diving is. We also want to know where the sunken airplane is. We have 18 dives planned the week we are there. 10 boat, 6 beach and 2 night from boat. It has been 8 yrs since we have been there and hope Cozumel is just as good as it was.

a beach diving destination. There are only a few spots for beach diving here.

1. Paradise beach (the best one of these listed) - located just north of the Caletta (marina). Access is through the Caletta. Once you enter the caletta, you will drive south and it will be your second little driveway in the jungle.

2. La Ceiba/International pier - this is where the plane wreck is, or what's left of it anyway. It is just a pile of junk now and it doeasn't really look like a plane anymore. There is some marine life growing on it.

3. Villa Blanca - in front of Papa Hogs. The best thing to do is get in at Papa Hogs and drift down to Caribe Blu. You'll have to walk back with your equipment or have your car parked down there. Current can get very strong, so navigating back to your starting point can sometimes be next to impossible. Plan to drift.

4. Dzul-Ha - Best to get in in front of Fiesta Americana and drift down to Dzul Ha. Current can get very strong, so navigating back to your starting point can sometimes be next to impossible. Plan to drift.

With ALL of these sites (except La Ceiba) make sure that you have a surface marker. There is alot of boat traffic in Cozumel and if they don't know you're down there, they won't be looking for you.

I think you'll find that the shore diving here is less than exceptional, and in some cases more hassle than it's even worth.

Be careful and have fun!
