Hi All,

Looking for the best place in the Pacific to go spend a month this August. Want to dive for around 10 days, then spend 2 weeks or so lounging around, hanging out with locals or other touries, and just relaxing. Don't mind spending a bit on the airfare, and diving is always expensive, but for the last 2 weeks I want cheap hotels, food, and drinks., with lots

We're both fairly experienced divers who've seen a bit of the world, and so we have fairly high expectations if we're to spend that kind of money. We like big fish / mammals, and nice wrecks. Whales or whalesharks would be great if possible! We have all of our own gear, and won't tolerate any hand-holding DM's.

Any recommendations? I'll be travelling from the US and meeting a friend from the EU, so it has to be possible to get to from each.

if it was me..... Vanuatu is always a favourite of mine

i would spent about 10 days diving up in Santo/dive the Cooligee and other sites

then move down to Port Villa (and you can dive some more as there so many places to dive) as its a nice place to chill and if you want you can do a side trip to Tanna island for the volcanos and ash-skiing (i dont know why but its there to be done apparently)

no whales or whalesharks im sorry but plent of other fishlife and wrecks

cheers

Hi Almitywife,
We are off to Santo in October but can't decide where to stay.
Deco Stop has been mentioned but some reports say it is a bit of a party place. Can't afford Bokissa:( Where do you stay?

let me know if you need help.

ive heard that about Deco before but its been years since we've been there but im told recently that its still a good place, there might be a good mood/buzz early eve and then people quite down, have dinner and go to bed.... its the excitement of the diving!

i really recommend Coral Quays http://www.coralquays.com/, nice bungalows with privacy only about 15mins outside of town and they will take care of you

I stayed here in Santo The Beachfront Resort - Accommodation Details. Only a few min walk into town with a nice beach outfount for swimming. I think i payed NZ$ 50 a night for accommodation in a garden view place which had a nice bed, good shower, basic cooking facilitys and daily room service and was very clean.

Even if you dont stay with them go there and try the pizza!
