Ok guys, here’s the deal. I have 2 free round-trip tickets on Delta to anywhere in the US, including Hawaii, or Caribbean. They were given to my wife as a xmas bonus and can be used anytime within the next year, so no rush. Where should we go? My wife kinda has her heart set on Hawaii, but I here the diving there leaves a little to be desired. In the end, I get to choose the place, since she wanted to go to Alaska this year and I wanted to go South, we went to Alaska.:) My chooses in the Caribbean are Nassau, San Juan, St. Thomas, Grand Cayman, Aruba, St. Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Montego Bay, Cancun and possibly Cozumel. I think that’s all Delta does in the Caribbean. I’m leaning more towards the Caymans and catching a charter flight over too Cayman Brac. I don’t really want to waste the tickets on such an inexpensive flight as to Cancun or Cozumel. What do you think? And what do you think about Hawaii?

Many times since I've been here people have mentioned how inexpensive Cozumel is. Right now the best air price I can get from Denver is about $900 a person. Maybe I can come to your house and fly from there. Summer isn't to bad but November 'til June is very expensive.

Hmmm... well, whatever you do, don't forget rule #1.
Did I mention rule #1 before? No? ok...
Rule #1: "If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

We loved St. Thomas! Diving is good: try Chris Sawyer for your boat, etc. He is out of Red Hook. Whilst in Red Hook, stop by a "trailer restaurant" called the "Texas Barbeque" and have chicken, beef, or pork (or all three): one of the best--and cheapest-you will have on St. Thomas. The boat ride to St. John--also leaving Red Hook--is a nice day trip.

I think a rental car is a must! There is also a movie house on the island with (really) the latest releases! The main town, Charlotte Amalie, is where the cruise boats dock, and, thus, we stay away from there.

We tend to stay in pricey digs, but I think you can find cost effective ones, if so inclined. Sapphire Bay has some reasonable condos--and is close to Red Hook.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, you probably right. We'll most likely end up going where she wants, which is looking like Hawaii. I don't think I'm going to be able to pull this off as a hard core dive trip. But I here the charters in Hawaii are ay over priced. Oh well.

St. Thomas....That's where we got married and spent our honey moon. We loved it, but really want to try something different.

Cozumel prices.....Well she's a travel agent ad gets boocuddles of speacial offers to Cancun. I'm talking super deals like 7 nights including air fare at an all inclusive resort for $500/600. So that's what I meant by cheap. Yeah, there usually in the off season, but I think she has 4 nights at one of the Palace Resorts for free now. We'll probably go there this Spring and do Cozumel as a day trip a few times.

If I'm right, look into Saba...a quick 10 minute extra flight to an extraordinary place. Super diving, and an island that is really different.

WarHammer,
I vote for Hawaii. If you and your wife have never been there, it's a place you should go at least once. Also as a travel agent too, it's much easier to sell Hawaii once you've been there.
A good compromise would be to go to Maui or Kauai.
That way you get the better diving of Hawaii and your wife can do tons of things while you dive. Haleakala has a great sunrise bike ride downhill, and the Trilogy is the best catamaran in town! You can also dive on the Trilogy and they sail over to Lanai and let you dive there also.
Have fun!

Natasha....I've never been, she has once before. She also dives, she actually got me started diving! But she isn't as enthusiastic about diving as I am. She's your typical "Caribbean/bath tub condition" diver and even then she doesn't want to do an aweful lot of it. Me? I'm perfectly happy diving the whole trip, 4 or 5 dives a day, and never even seeing what else a place has to offer.:) We'll most likely end up going with Maui and making it a 2 week trip. That way I can dive my ass off and still find time for what she wants to do. I'll be broke, but happy.:)

So where did you end up going?

Doubt if wife would appreciate Saba over Hawaii.

Having been to both the OP should do Hawaii!
