Just wondering if anyone remembers the moment that they realized that scuba was for them?

For me, it was the first time I took a breath on my regulator in the pool portion of the class. For my dive buddies, it was their first OW dive after certification.

well before I took my first class. I had to wait a month from when I signed up to take the class and I already had the written material and videos memorized by the time that I started.

On my first pool, session the instructor shook his head when he gave us practice time and I said something to effect that "We get to play now? Great!" and this was in a pool. I am a very serious person, but everybody that I know says that I am like a little boy again when it involves diving!

I loved it from the first time in the pool. Like you I distinctly remember the very first breath I ever took under water.

And after my first night dive there was no looking back.

My husband and I got certified together so we could go diving
on our honeymoon. He didn't talk me into it, as I had always
wanted to learn to dive, just nervous about it. I truly didn't
feel 100% sure of the sport until our first dive in Florida.
Not the best diving in the world, but
had such a great time. The DM was great! Hadn't done much
diving since my husband and I got certified so we were both
a little nervous. Went down and saw a sea turtle, nurse shark, barracuda, and the largest fish I have ever seen in my life! about 8 huge grouper fish. It was such an amazing experience, I knew I was hooked on diving!
Went to Cozumel last year and that just reinforced my love
for the sport. I was nervous there the first few dives, but
towards the end of the week, I had never felt so relaxed!

Watching Sea Hunt.
Ditto.

Sea Hunt got me interested. First dive - in SoCal at Catalina (no cert.) - got me hooked...

I grew up in the 70's with my dad diving off his boat. He ended up selling the boat when I was 10 and getting away from diving.
I was in my early 20's when he passed away. I was in the attic cleaning out some things when I came across a duffel bag full of very well maintained dive gear.
I knew right away it was time to get certified.
I still use his jet fins, steel 72, Darrell Allen light, and his MK5 regs, and Nikonos 2 camera. Some of his gear Ive retired or never used...that bag is now im my attic.

Just retired by MK5 (fatigue) and hung up the Nikonos III not too long ago. Still have my Mares Planas - they must have been purchased around '80. If only my custom 1/4" fit from back then  (Never heard of a 7mil in those days!)
