Wondering is anyone out there has the Oceanic Geo computer and if so how do you use the thing? I have read and re read the manual, installed the cd and downloaded the stuff to my computer and re read the manual again. It seems that without actually going for a dive I can only play with the watch, stop watch, alarm, ect. The book tells me to go into dive mode and then depress x & x button to bring up settings yada yada. Just cant figure it out. Do I just have to jump in the water to get it to work?

Yes.

Buried in the fine print somewhere you'll probably find something like "it enters the dive mode at 5' depth at the start of the dive. At the end of the dive it goes to the surface mode when you ascend to 3'." I don't know the exact depths that the Geo enters and exits the dive mode, but 5' and 3' are typical for most computers.

My computer won't turn off. Where's of the OFF button?
(OK, OK, I know you didn't ask that question, but that's the other one that often gets asked this time of year as people play with their Christmas presents).

Most dive computers turn of automatically after a couple of hours of being in the surface mode unless they are "dive watch" sort of things.

Yes this was brought to be an everyday watch / dive computer so I know it will not turn off. FWIW that didn't work out to well either as this is slightly bigger then i had expected. Hopefully I will be in the water every weekend so who knows maybe it will never come off :D

That's funny. . . Except for the fact the Geo is actually a PDC and wristwatch.

If you want to get into dive mode you don't have to jump in any water. From the main time screen press and hold the top left button until the graphic "NORM" appears along with surface time (0:00) and dive (0). Now your in the main surface dive screen.

That should help you get started. I agree the manuals confusing, but you'll get the hang of it.

Be sure you get familar with double checking that the computer is in "NORM" mode BEFORE you jump in the water. I learned this the hard way when we first got our computers. Mine was in "GAUGE" mode - once it registers the beginning of a dive in gauge mode you can't put it back to Normal Dive Computer mode for 24 hours.
