How's it going everyone? Guess I'll introduce myself. My name is Travis, been a certified diver for three years. I have both my basic and advanced certifications through Padi, but I've only gone diving 3 times, and at a maximum depth of 60 feet. I just purchased all the gear I need aside from the tank, and want to start diving regularly. I'm a college student at Texas State. I live in an area with a lot of rivers and lakes near by, San Marcos, Texas, for the those in the area. I figured I'd join and maybe meet some people who could help me out with beginning diving and also maybe meet some dive buddies.

Hi Travis,

Do I have a deal for you. Run over to the Aquarena Center and tell them you are a TSU student who wants to dive. Some of the best water in Texas is five minutes away. It is my understanding that as a TSU student you can take the Diving for Science : Aquarena Center : Texas State University for free if you put in 10 volunteer dives. Also, it is one of the very few places where a student can get paid to dive. Check them out and see what they can offer you.

Hey look, another TSU student. What year are you?

Have you tried any spots on the Blanco River? I do a lot of kayaking and there are some crystal clear stretches. They could seriously compete with Aquarina Springs when the weather is right. You'll just need a boat to get to most of them though. They are usually pretty shallow so I'm not sure if your scuba gear will cause trouble. I haven't been diving in most of them yet because I never think to bring my stuff with me.
