What's the value of a used Canon WP DC200s housing?

I loaned my 3rd backup camera setup to a friend to use in Costa Rica, unfortunaley he broke the clasp on the housing on the plane ride back. It was a unit that I used for about 7 months and put about 30 dives on it. Can anyone tell me how much this is worth so that I can give him a price for reimbusrement? Thanks.

I had mine replaced on the housing for the Canon A20 and it cost me around $30. Check with your Canon repair facility BEFORE you quote your friend...the part here was only the pin and was like $2 but the labour cost was outrageous (and they wouldn't sell me the pin so I could fix it myself!) If they can't fix the clasp you'll need a new housing - about $150.

I think your freind should offer to give you a working housing just like you gave him. If I broke a piec of loaned equipment I'd certinaly want to take the effort to replace it not just write a check. THat said he could either order one from Amazon.com for delivery to your address you sand the housing to Cannon service center for repair with retun to your address. Having to replace it if you loose it is the risk one takes when accepting a loan.

If you really want a fair market value. for like-new but used current model photo gear, I'd suggest between 2/3 and 3/4 of the price of a new equipment bought from an on-line discount store. Computes out to about $119 for your housing.
