Hey shugar,

The IXUS lines in North America go by the 'SD' Moniker, so you'll see Canon Powershot SD400 or SD500 on this side of the world as opposed to IXUS.
Anyway the SD line of camera are more compact, more stylish and I think in comparison to the Powershot cameras are a little more expensive.

Powershot cameras, example the A610/A620, A520, A95, whatever are a bit larger and tend to have more manual controls.

It depends on what you want in a camera, IMO if you're looking to shoot underwater then you'll want a camera with at least some manual controls (i.e. control of shutter speed, aperture opening etc.) and the Powershot cameras seem to offer that in abundance.

Best of luck to you and ask the rest of the PPD guys, they have firsthand experience with all this camera stuff :D.

Oh check out this link, lots of useful info re preparing an oring for use
