Does anyone know what the small gummy worm-looking creatures are that have been showing up on the shores of Avalon as of late? I was there last weekend and the water smelled horrible, and the water was littered with small creatures that look like either gummy worms or some kind of cousin to a sea cucumber.

One of my friends who had gone diving with me last weekend said while fishing out at Anacapa yesterday that when he pulled up a rockfish, it had multiple of these kinds of creatures in its gut. No clue what they are but I'm assuming the smell has to do with them decaying.

Any insight would be appreciated.

They were all over the water column around Palos Verdes the past few weeks. There were tons of dead ones on the bottom yesterday. The fish and bottom feeders are cleaning up the reefs.
