There is a price tag on instruction. It doesn't always correspond to the value of the instruction nor to the worth of the instructor... but at least it gives some indication of what the instructor thinks in that regard.

There is no price associated with a mentor so there isn't even a starting point.

Basic OW Course $299.
AOW Course $199.
Getting equiped $2,000 - $5,000
Finding someone to mentor you - Priceless

BTW - Now you know why I always bring food for you on our dives. My small way of thanking you for helping me out.

As one that has been fortunate enough to have a mentor almost from day 1, I can't put a value on on it, but I can say this, THANK YOU so very much.

By the careful exclusion of the word "dive" in your post, I presume your grazing in the general life aisle, and not the dive aisle. ;)

I don't at present have a dive mentor. Tried - but we work better on a hang-out level rather than on a mentor / mentee level. Still got my eye out for a suitable dive mentor. PM your resumes. :10:

But in business, its been completely priceless to me. Changed my life. Same in my spiritual life - completely priceless. In my home - well, growing up without a father I found when I got married that I had no clue how to be a leader in my home. My Father-in-law has been my home leadership mentor.

There is a cost to learning, and its not just a monetary cost There is a price you pay for being thoughful, respectful, earnest & sincere. There is a price associated with making yourself vulnerable, burying your pride and taking direction and correction. There is an investment you make in yourself to become a better man.

The price and investment for all of those has been nowhere near the value of direction I've recieved from my mentors.

What's a mentor worth? My mentors are worth my time, my prayers, my loyalty & my honesty. I'd be a poorer soul without them.

My mentor helped me soo much that I honestly dont know where I would be w/o her. Scuba is a huge part of my life and Id hate to think how life would be w/ out the help I recieved.

Can I ever pay them back? No I can try but no way especialy now that Im out of the country, all we can do sometimes is return the favor to others and hope it creates a chain.
It takes a good person to take time to show you the ropes w/o expecting pay or compensation. So my answer is: "More than we'll ever know".

Good question UP

Uncle Pug:
Mentors can never be paid back... they are paid forward.
Bingo

True, but a happy mentor is far better than a grumpy mentor. And the fastest way to a mentors heart is through their stomach... :eyebrow:

Having been in the roll of mentor - fulfillment comes by watching the student progress. It is the goal of the teacher to see the student accel beyond them. It is the rare student that can do this. When the student becomes the mentor, the circle is complete.

Is that what the decompression pills were for on the boat? :D
