Mako rubber belt with Tinman pinch weights.

Depends on how I'm diving or teaching.
AL 80 Weight pockets- if teaching I may also wear a weightbelt for demonstration. For wetsuit diving I wear about 10 lbs & for lighter undergarment drysuit, I wear about 18 lbs..
For cold water diving wearing very thick undergarments in an AL 80, I have used a DUI weight harness Nearly 30 lbs. Any more now, I just dive doubles or the rebreather.
Double Steel LP 108's & SS back plate- No weight
Prism2 rebreather- 16 lbs in some modified non ditchable pockets that are bolted to the frame & a SS backplate

Let me rephrase the question...If you are using a jacket BC would you use the ditch-able weight pockets alone or add a belt with some weight....are the weight pockets meant to take the place of the belt?

Steel cylinder, SS backplate... NONE.

same except when diving a single....then it's the OMS No snag Weight pouch

I have not dived one in years and have no plan to ditch my BP/Wing. OTOH just use the weight plan designed for the BC.

I did have to wear both a weight belt & use the weight pockets when I was diving in the Galapagos in my drysuit. Because of the back roll off the boat & the need to get to the bottom very quickly (to avoid being blown away by currents), I had to wear a bit more weight than the BC could carry in pockets. Normally in my recreational BC, I primarily use the back trim pockets & use the ditchable pockets to the remainder,... it is just more comfortable & convenient. The weight belt I only use for weight belt demonstrations.

both-----3 on each side of my Scout BC(totaling 6 there) & the rest(over 3 lbs ---cuz I'll strap a 1,2, or 3# on my top tank cam band) on a weight belt......

You see, Phoenix, there is no one right or wrong answer. People use what ever works best for the type of diving they are doing. Some use the pockets, as I do, for comfort & convenience, some prefer weight belts, some use no weights. The best answer would be, what works for you, What keeps you in the best buoyancy & trim. Weight systems, like most any other equipment that you use, is a tool. One size does not always fit all.

I really like the Mako rubber weight belts. I run 20 lbs on mine. My husband uses the DUI Weight & Trim harness, because he hasn't got a waist to hang a weight belt on.

I did not like integrated weight pockets. They're difficult to load and get in and out of the BC, when you have to use the amount of weight we use in Puget Sound, and they make the rig unstable when sitting up, and hard to move around on a boat.
