for the australians on the forum - what kind of clothing is needed in Aug? We are going to tour from Sydney up to Cairnes and then go on a week long live aboard for diving. We assume that it will be somewhat cool in Sydney - but warmer on the reef, but not hot..... are we right? :confused:We plan to bring swimwear - but also fleece jackets.... is that the best idea?
thanks - marcy

Hi Marcy,

I used to live in Australia and August is winter. So bring the fleece and a hat for between dives. Sometimes you will get great weather but it is their windy season and tends to be cooler when the wind is whipping.

Also warm water wetsuits, but I always carry a 3mm hooded vest in the tropics just in case I get cold...

Hope this helps!

Annie

yep - for sydney, august is the best month for ski season and water temps will be about 13C/55F and as annie said above, we have the august winds and the afternoons can get blowy

i will be diving lady ellliot (qld) in 3 weeks time and im planning on taking my aeorskin and maybe a vest

cheers

It certainly is warmer on the reef than further south this time of year, but it can be breezy, and the evenings tend to be cool. Water temp is about 20 C

Temperature is very subjective ... what one person feels cold another does not, so here is alink to the Bureau of Meteorology giving some statistical averages.
