IDA59.

Russian Rebreather. For Escaping subs if they can't come up... Supposed to be good to 300m. Trimix in one bottle and O2 in the other.

So would your average recreational diver buy something like this and use it? (after rebreather training course)

Your Very advanced Rebreather diver, Who knows how to use it already. Or convert it for another Rebreather would use it.

Or a Museum.

Or for a conversation piece on a wall.

But definately not a good device to learn on.

Try Dave Sutton's website for much more info on the Russki rebreathers.

I recently saw an IDA-71 that a guy here in Houston rebuilt, working with Dave for parts and ideas. It took a lot of work, but he did a really nice job.

The rigs from the "Motherland", like any of their military stuff, are double-ugly, but double-tough, just like a John Deere tractor. (In defense of the local unit, I will say that it looks a lot better after the change from puke-making yellow-green to a nice gray paint job!)
