I'm leaving for Aruba within 3 weeks to do my Advanced Open Water.

I decided for myself that when I got back to The Netherlands I would also start diving in The Netherlands and try and get to Rescue Diver cerfication.

But now on the site of the diving club I'm planning on joining I see there is a combined option for doing EFR + Rescue Diver + PADI O2 which saves me a few bucks.

I know what EFR and Rescue Diver mean, but what is PADI O2 (don't even know if it's the letter o or a zero)? :06:

Can anyone explain please?

Thanks!

Sjoerd

DAN Oxygen Provider

Course Highlights: This half-day course will teach you the basics of how to give oxygen to a patient in the event of a diving emergency. Although the course contains a segment on theory, most of the time will be spent on skill development. Through hand-on practice you'll be introduced with various oxygen delivery systems and their use. Upon successful completion, you'll receive a certification from the Divers Alert Network (DAN) as a basic oxygen provider.

Topics:
Review of Anatomy and physiology
Signs and symptoms of diving emergencies
Benefits of oxygen in diving emergencies
Diving accident statistics
Emergency oxygen delivery equipment
Use of inhalator valve, constant-flow non-breather and pocket masks

Prerequisites: To enroll in the course, you must have an entry-level scuba certification and current certification in CPR.

I do not know the extent of the PADI course. The DAN course covered
proper handling of oxygen equipment and the delivery systems to provide
emergency oxygen to a diver in distress.

Hmm.. so I should take the combined package! The more knowledge the safer it gets (I hope).

Thanks for the quick info!

The PADI and DAN courses are the same. PADI incorporated the DAN outline and training materials and gives you a Distinctive Specialty. Same for the DAN/PADI Hazardous Marine Life course.

Just a note on the PADI/DAN O2 Cert. forms ... if you send in the DAN one , I think It's good for two years, then you need to recertify
The PADI cert is good for life (but you should get that refresher training every two years anyway so the difference may be a moot point)
