Hi all,

Am rushing for time and quick information. Hope you lovely divers out there can give me some guidance-

1) Am into action and perlargic diving--Mantas, Sharks,Whales,EAgle,Barracudas,Jacks,Tunas...etc

2) Conditions of waters during this time of the year

I am asking for quick answers as I was invited to go along with my friends to PNG so have to decide and get my tickets drawn quickly.

Million thanks....
:D

PNG is a pretty small place, internal flights get you about everywhere.
For BIG action, great colour and walls I would head up north to Lissenung Island.

This is without doubt the best time od year to dive PNG, nice and dry, little runoff = outstanding Vis

Cheers
Chris

GO!! PNG is at the top of most people's short list.

I have had people who have done Palau and the Red Sea say it is by far "tops".

If you search here, you will find some people who have been multiple times. Parabolic, Allison Finch...Caymaniac. CCdiver...they all made it sound fantastic. I will go in 2007as it takes a stash of cash.

here is the place I am favoring

Hi,

I cannot provide info on what you asked for , as my trip will be in June.
Anyway, after my research, found the office in Singapore where you can get the PNG visitor visa prior to arriving at PNG

146 Robinson Road #04-01 068909
Tel : 6221 2609

S$55 for the visitor visa. I will rather to get it done in Spore as, ETA of my flight will be 0535++hrs, guess my buddy and me dun fancy filling up forms at that time and after a 6 1/2 hrs overnight flight. Hope this helps. Btw, which area will you be going to ?

Cheers

What area are your friends heading for? I have spent a lot of time on New Ireland and New Britain Islands (with time in the Witu Islands). All of these areas have great sharks, HUGE schools of trevally and 'cudas, and hand feeding wild turtles. George, the biggest 'cuda around will come up and all but rub noses with you (in a "friendly" way). Let us know your location.

My vote goes to "Albatross Channel" near Lissenung Island for the best "adreneline" dive I've had in PNG over the years. There's big currents there that pull in lots of big critters. If you can't find it there, there's really no where else to look 'cause they probably aren't around!

For the best time to visit, find lissenung island resort on google and have an e-mail chat with the dive operator there. I forget his name, but he's an Austrian fellow his wife who own the resort.

enjoy!

I will second Albatross Channel!! You may have to pull hard against the current to drop over the wall, but once you do the current is all but gone. Nice sharks there. Schools of pelagics too. Nearby is Planet Ocean which is good too. These are all off of New Ireland Island with easy acess to Kavieng.

Yeah....north part is good at this time of the year.

I read some news about political unrest at Solomon islands. Best you check with the operators there to enquire and have yourself covered in the vaccinations, travel and dive insurances.

Happy Diving

I am looking at kavieng or aquaventures LOB...

Is it true about the situation? Saw it in CNN dive news. But that was in the early part of May.

Maybe change my dates to mid July then. Actions and actions will be great to see. I am not really into Macro. Can some kind souls advice?

Cheers
