It's a button/depression on the outside of the regulator in your mouth that releases air manually into the mouthpiece.

Ther is a purge button on your regulator that clears the water out of it so you can breathe air instead of water. You'll learn all about this when you get your certification.

On some masks and snorkels, to make it easier to get the water out of them. Totally unnecessary, IMHO.
...if you happen to be traveling on ships called "Nostromo" and "Sulaco" near a place called LV-426, you might see a big red purge button you can use to evacuate nasty aliens from your ship.
