We are considering Bonaire for an Oct--Dec time frame trip. How's the viz? We've been there many times and I heard that the viz hasn't been great for several months, Is that accurate??

This from another thread, diver was there a week ago.

I don't know what was going on but all week it was ranging from 60 down to 30 or 40 feet.

Was not great but fine for close up. LOTS of juvies - perhaps it's baby fish poo ; ) Varied by sites. Have also been there in Oct. when vis was quite good.

We leave tomorrow night. Should have a first hand update on Saturday. In March the vis was pretty good, but there was floating small "stuff" that hurt the longer range photography. I had to use long strobe arms and really offset the strobes to keep from highlighting the particles.

Ernesto is stirring things up some, once you get out of the surge in the shallows it is an easy 60+. The down side for wide angle photography is the floating small stuff that would ruin a shot, but doesn't really hurt the vis that much. The dive staff says the vis will not be further adversely affected unless we get a lot of rain and it has been dry so far.

Took this of my son and grandson last week.

Jim,
Just got back just before Ernesto ( actually day before )and the visibility is varied depending on what site you go. Been 12 times and have never had visibility above 80 or below 30 except when I've run into a "storm" which is a rare event but has happened once. I don't think its something you should be concerned about unless photography is your thing--then i certainly "know nothing".
been November,March,May and July and visibility has always been as described.
