Hi All,

Just curious...what compact flash cards do you all use in your Canon's? When I had my Digital Elph 4.0 I had a 512mb (can't remember the brand). I learned a hard lesson when I lost my camera on a dive...If I would have had several smaller cards I wouldn't have lost all my pics (I had 300 on the card when it was lost). So, now that I have my new camera (digital elph 5.0) I need to get some new cards for our next trip. I want to get a 256 plus a couple of 128's, I think. Can anyone recommend a good card with good write times? Or at least tell me what you are using and if you are happy with it?

Thanks!

I don't have a canon, but I do use a CF card. I ordered this CF and am very happy with it

I have 2 - 512's, 1 - 256, these are the ones I use most, then I also have 2 - 64's, 2* -32's and 1* - 16 (*came with the cameras)
Since I DL everday it's not a problem.

I wouldn't go for the smaller cards. You are underwater or on a boat where you don't have a place to download, the bigger the card the better.

My suggestions, Get a 512 card again.
Get one of the mobile hardrives (like ipod - you can get cheaper) and download all the pics after a days diving.

Hi,

I checked out the site you recommended for the CF cards...looks like pretty decent prices! Question....what does 52x mean? Is that the write speed? Do I want a high number or low? Sorry for all the questions!

Thanks!

Here's another good site to check out: http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/

The Ridata cards come highly recommended. I find there has to be a balance in terms of size. You don't want to go too large in case something craps out and you've lost a ton of data, but big enough so that you don't run out during a dive. I'd go with some 256s or 512s.

Yes Write Speed. Take it with a pinch of salt. If they are the same price as others get the higher speeds, otherwise most smaller cams like ours aren't going to benefit much beyond 10X, the other hardware is holding them up.

DSLR is a different story.

Not using a Canon but I have one 512CF for my primary card. Like Leesa, I download at the end of every day when on a trip, but I have the space available if needed for video clips. I figure it's better to have space on a card and not need it than the other way around!

Don't worry about the questions...how will you find things out if you don't ask? ;)

52x is the speed that the data is written to the CF card. Just like your CD burner. The first ones were something like 4x as fast as real time and the one I have now is 48x as fast.

Thanks so much for all the replies!!! Going to order a couple of 256's in the next couple of days. Can't wait til December! We are going on our 3rd trip to Cozumel this year!!!
