Can I call back to the States from Grand Cayman?

If yes, what are the extra charges that'll be made by the phone company?

If no, what can I do to be able to get a call through? There must be someway to call back to the States.

Hi,

Do you mean using the hotel phone or your own cell phone?
If you do it at the hotel, rates vary. Its like any hotel in the US, they will of course charge you a premium for long distance calls.

On your cell phone, check your carrier. We have a GSM network in Cayman, so if you are with AT&T or T-Mobile it will work (make sure you have international roaming enabled) Not sure about other carriers such as Verizon. Beware though, roaming in Cayman can be quite pricey, so check rates with your carrier before making long calls.

Alternatively, if you have a laptop you could use Skype to call home with an internet connection.

Good luck

Verizon wireless CDMA service will work on Grand Cayman only. You need to activate the international roaming service through a Verizon agent prior to leaving the US. Cost is $1.99 US per minute.

Other US carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T use the same GSM service as the Cayman wireless carriers so you can use on the sister islands as well. Check with your provider for roaming rates.

Many visitors with UNLOCKED GSM phones opt to rent or purchase a prepaid SIM card from LIME or Digicell and use that in their phones while visiting. Renting a cell phone for your stay is also an option.

Finally, there are prepaid calling card options available for land based phones.

Here is a link to the options available from LIME (fka Cable & Wireless):

Had forgot about the unlocked option!
From memory, a SIM (assuming you have a GSM) will cost 5$ and then you just add $ as you go in 5-10$ shots. Calling USA/Canada is then something like 50c/minute.
