Permits have not been issued as of yet for this years season. We are hoping for May 20 start. last year was delayed as well. There will more than likely be some changes to the amount of boats allowed and the distance to the whale sharks this year. Stay tuned.....

I saw an advertisement for whale shark tours that stated the opening date this year is going to be May 15, and that there will be tighter limits on the number of boats allowed. Can this be confirmed, or was this just to stimulate business?

Yes that is correct. However the permits have not been issued as of yet for the 15th start date. It may be then or anytime up to June. There will be new regulations as to the number of boats allowed in the areas. We are hoping to start tours on May 20th?
