We were diving the Duanne Friday, and I had my eyes on the deck in good viz, but one of the divers saw the monster cruising by 50 ft above and ascended to shoot the pic - otherwise we would not have believed her. :D I hope she'll post it here soon...

Damn! So close, and still missed...!!

How long was it, Don?

Wow, thats pretty amazing. Do you have a copy of the picture?
Nope, but Cat should be posting here soon with it. I'm sure she'll want to show it off!!

Can't say, as I missed it. She should be along soon, as I emailed her a link to this thread.

Can I say 'situational awareness'? :D On the other hand I suppose if it had been a Great White you'd have missed that too and kept a clean pair of pants! :D
The whale shark I missed last year in Thailand was a bit further away - about a week! :crying:

Wow Don!! That's awesome, I wish I'd been able to join you guys in FL! Looking forward to the pics and trip report!

I think it's time to go wake this girl up! We want to see :) I got to see a whale while I was in Costa Rica. If she had been just a couple of minutes later we would have been in the water :( i was still happy to see her. She had a baby as well - I missed it. We almost totally missed out seeing anything at all, as all of us were finishing suiting up. The captain was the one who spotted her of the starbird (Great tip for him that day!!!).

Oooh, I miss Costa Rica.

Okay, here is one pics she took - presented here before and after photoshop

I was mentioning this whale shark news to a dive buddy of mine and was told that a neighbor of hers saw a whale shark in the Gulf of Mexico last summer about 50-75 miles out. It was right beside and bigger than his boat, a 28 foot Grady White. There are supposedly pictures of the whale shark too, but I have yet to see them. Hmm... :33: If they surface, I'll post them.

How cool to see one of these though, let alone dive with one! :D
