Hi ! new here.

I need to get my wetsuit but but being told so many different this I am just not sure.

I will be doing my diving off ocean city md about 1/2 the time and the rest in the upper
gulf near pensacola fl. Are there 2 peace suits that I can get that will be good for both or do I have to buy 2 sets ???????? thanks very much .

You will want 2 suits. The waters are so different that in FL. you my need only a 3mm or just a skin. In MD though you might be needing a full 7mm with a hooded vest or even to go dry suit. My last dives in Missouri at the turn of the year the water was 48* on the surface and 42* below 20'. My 7/5mm was good for one or two dives for 20-30 minutes each but that was it for the weekend.

I guess it also makes a difference what time of year you are going to be down in Pensacola. If it is in the winter a heavier suit will be fine, so a farmer john type 7mm will do you well in both places. In Maryland you can wear both pieces and in Pansacola youjust where the outer "jacket". Do a search on scuba board for "farmer john" and "wetsuit" and see what you come up with.

I do most of my diving in CA and several weeks in the carib...so similar situation. I have my 7/5 with a 5mm hooded vest that i wear in CA and a 3mm for the carib... but I have found that the more I dive, the less I am moving around (more comfortable I am), the colder I get. I am considering bringing my 7/5 without the vest for my next carib trip... so much will depend on how cold you get. I highly recommend Henderson's 7/5 - feels like a 5/3 (actually more flex than a 5/3) and it's very versitile. Feel free to send questions.

You may want to consider a dry-suit depending on how much diving you will be doing in fla, and what activities you do while you are. Depending on which model you get, you could use it with undergarments in MD, and w/o in fla ...

Unfortunately you will need two sets. You won't want a dry suit in Florida. However, the 3mm suit for Florida will also be useful for you winter trips further south. If you plan an getting into diving it is not a cheap sport considering the gear.

The adventure is well worth the expense.

Depending on when you are diving each of those areas, assuming you go with a wetsuit rather than dry (big $$$) ... having a skin (~ $50) and a 2 piece 7 mil suit (~ $150) gives you some flexibility. The skin makes it sooo much easier to put on that 7 mil suit. And it is great for tropical diving. And in the colder Florida weather a skin with one or both of the 7 mil pieces would probably be fine, which one(s) you use would depend on how cold it is at the time. But that might not work well for a small part of the year, so it depends on when you are going.
