my SP G250V breathes wet when I'm inverted, and a guy who claimed to be a 20+yr tech barked at me "... all regs will breathe wet when inverted ..." but I've read reviews that claim a particular reg 'works flawlessly in any position' - anyone have experience w/ this?

thx in advance,
-s.d

btw - a forum search on this topic returned no results, which caused me to think this may not be a common thing

Poseidon Regs are never "inverted"... they work in any position.

I meant when I, THE DIVER, am inverted - as in head toward the seafloor w/ fins toward the surface - sorry for any confusion. thx. -s.d

same answer.

There is no upside down on this reg.

Other regulators... with the dead space at the "bottom" some water can collect. So when you invert... it goes into your mouth.

Some regs may breath a little dryer than others in different positions.
It mostly has to do with how the exhaust valve is positioned in relation to the mouthpiece. Lower exhaust valves will be 'higher' when inverted allowing a little more water to accumulate during exhaust. A more centered valve will be more even in all positions. A larger valve may allow a little more water in also, but a smaller valve will give a little more resistance on exhale. As with most things, there is almost always a tradeoff somewhere.

howarde: thx for the addl info + pics

webjr: thx for the info - great technical description - am much clearer

i have the G250v & S600; both never breath wet in any given posture I can assume underwater.

A wet breathing regulator is is not really a black and white thing. It is a matter of degree. My experience is that Scubapro regs tend to perform fairly well in this area but there can always be a problem one. I suggest you get your tech to lend you another similar Scubapro reg and see if there is any difference. If yours is noticeably wetter than others, I would expect yours can be handled as defective. A replacement valve is a cheap and easy fix that the tech should probably try first. The case is a bit more cost and work but that is the other possibility if yours is defective.

I have a G250V and it doesn't breathe wet in any position.

And I have a short tether for people who try to convince me I'm crazy instead of doing their job. You might want to go have a talk with the shop owner or find another service facility.
