Yeah, the dive instructor with you will tow a surface marker.

In the video at 33 seconds there is an aerial hyper-lapse shot of the boat going across the water. If you look very carefully in the lower right corner, you can see a white dot moving along, which is the surface marker being towed by the divers below.
