I'm interested in hearing how much weight other folks carry when diving with a semi-dry suit. Parring down my weight has become a bit of an obsession (ok, maybe too strong a word) as I work on improving my techniques.

6'2" 170 lbs, using a Mares Isotherm 7mm, Cressi S-111 BC, and ALU 80, I'm currently wearing 20lbs.

When diving in nice warm 80+F waters with a 3mm suit, ALU 80s and same BC, it's currently 12lbs.

Don't forget that some of the semi-dry suits can seal pretty well. Burping the suit will help to eliminate the air inside and might make a big difference in the amount of weight you have to wear.

Just a thought...

I dive an Xcel 8/7/6mm semi-dry with a Scubapro Knighthawk. With an Al 80, I wear 18 lbs (I'm 6'0", 160 lbs). I think I could still drop a pound or two, since I'm slightly negative at 15' with 500 PSI...

For the record, I much prefer to dive the small, high pressure Scubapro steel 72s. They're quite negative! I think I wore just 11 lbs last time I rented one.

That's an excellent point, ABQDiver - i make it a point to burp the suit doing down. Makes a big difference - anywhere between 2-4 lbs of bouyancy there I think. :D
