I have a jacket bc, problem is my anatomy is such that my weightbelt isn't low enough to clear the bc due to my hips, so dropping the weights could pose a problem... question is, without going with integrated weight bc and scrapping the one I have, what alternatives do I have so I can correct this potentially dangerous set up?

Not the removal and don you did in class. Go to a pool, get in shallow water on your knees, and dump yur weight belt just as you would when diving. The weight will probably pull it past the BC with no problems.

If you truly can't dump weight, here's an idea. Using your webbed weight belt, you could add weight pockets that dump from the bottom. Dive Rite and OMS come to mind. These are used mostly by tek-oriented divers and can be found in tek-type dive shops. I have a bp/wing BC and I use Dive Rite Clipper pockets which will hold 5-6# each. Depending on how much weight you need, there are pockets out there that will work.

They aren't cheap but cheaper than a new BC.

thanks...

Shellbird:

Rax is correct. I was wearing an Andy's weight harness when NELD was last at Jamestown.

I truly hate weight belts. I'm not much happier with integrated weights.

That weight harness is one of the single best purchases I've made. I highly recommend it.

If your interested, after I get my doubles set up (should be this week), we can refit my harness so that it fits you. You can try it out in the water and see if you like the harness concept.

That would be great... Going to have to go to Rocy Hill some time soon I guess...

I too dive with a harness and will not consider diving without it.
When diving in warm water I am able to stand a belt if I need it. In New England, with the weight amounts needed, a harness allows greater flexability. It never seems to loosen up as you achieve depth. (neo compression)

Hi Shell --

I think the harness sounds great... but, just a comment on the belt...

My belt is also under my bc... but I can attest to the fact that once unbuckled, it slides clear VERY easily on it's own.

to a harnes system bc with integrated weights. Scubapro Ladyhawke, anyone familiar with that?

Shellbird,

It's a great BC, well built, but it just didn't fit my body shape. The straps over the front part of the shoulder have a stiffener that dug into me. Others haven't had a problem with it.

It is a high quality BC, streamlined, durable, decent amount of lift, good value, but you really do not have any pockets. I'm sad it didn't fit me. ;-(

See the thread on my Diva LX vs. Ladyhawk debate/ordeal.
