Are there problems with weight-integrated BCs when bean-bag/shot lead weights are not available and the only choice is block lead? This must be a common occurence as many dive destinations do not offer bean bags and few divers fly in with their own lead weights.

What BC do you have? I have not seen a weight integrated BC that will not accept lead weights. The soft weights are very hard to get at the site usually.

I have never had a problem with the blocks

Dive a Scubapro - glide plus

I have never had a problem with solid lead weights. I had a Scubapro Classic NT and now have a Scubapro Classic Plus. They have completely different weight pockets. The Classic Plus and Glide Plus use the same weight pockets. I have never seen anybody else have problems either. The pockets would have to be pretty small to have an issue.

THe Zeagle Escape I have, uses the block lead and if you have the bag they suggest a saftey bag to put it in(yellow)

Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but how could a BC not accept hard weights? I know a hard weight will always be smaller than a soft weight of the same amount because of the porosity of the shot. That being said, how could it not fit?

The only person I've seen have this problem is my hubby. He has weight pockets on his Halcyon BP/W and one of the lead blocks tried to fall out while we were diving on the Duane. He ended up wrapping the blocks in a dish towel and inserting that into his pockets. Worked great.

However, regular integrated BC pockets should not have a problem because they all pretty much have a zippered compartment.

It depends on the shape of the pocket. Because the shape of the lead block is fixed, it may not be possible to use all the available space in the pocket. With the soft weight, you can often use more of the available space and jam more weight in the same space.
